Adventures of a College Sophomore
My name is Ashley, and I have lived in Des Moines my entire life. I am the oldest of three kids. I love to run and have a good time with friends and family. Getting ready for college has been a completely new experience for everyone in my family. I am the oldest grandchild and the first to go to college.
You could say my family had no idea what we were getting into. My parents have been experiencing some very mixed emotions about me leaving. When I first started looking at colleges they wanted some where that made them feel safe and luckly we all fell in love with UNI. Now it’s the end of the summer and they are finally realizing that I will be moving in soon. My mom wants to cry, but my dad wishes he had longer to prepare himself. I think I am the only one who is ready. College has been something I have always talked about and waited for. My entire four years of high school lead up to my senior year and deciding on where to go. My senior year went by really fast and so has my last summer. It has been a blast though. Now I have to watch all my friends from home leave and finally it will be my turn. I am really excited but really nervous. I have talked with my roommate and she is a big sweetheart, which makes me feel really at ease. I think the thing I worry the most about is trying to meet all these new people and still get adjusted. It is a little overwhelming, but I know that everyone else is feeling the same way.
I am so ready to move in, but I am still really nervous. I am moving all my clothing and little things up a day early, just so I can settle in a little easier. When I got on to campus, at first I was really nervous, but once I started talking to everyone else, I felt really at home. Moving in was a lot easier than I ever thought it would be. It is really crazy at first with everyone moving stuff, and you see and meet so many new people. When everything was finally in my room, I just sat down and thought about what a big step I had just taken. Moving in is the first step, into my freshman year of college. I am estatic to see what is to come over the next few months.
