I took a class this summer at a community college so that I could register and become a certified Nurse's Aid. And last week, I took my state test, and I am now officially a CNA. I was also hired to work as a CNA everyother weekend at a local nursing home. It is a lot of work, but it is a necessary step I needed to take in order to get into PA school. As most schools require applicants to have between 750 and 1000 patient contact hours. I am hoping to next semester take my 2nd class and become certified to work in a hospital as a CNA. I have to take it through a community college as I am not a nursing student, so it could be really challenging and time consuming. I love the nursing home, but it is definately not for me! Major props to people who do it full-time. I also want experience working in the hospital setting as when I get out of PA school, I will more than likely be working in a hospital or family practice setting. (PA is a physcian's assistant lots of people as me that.) It is an occupation that is becoming more and more in demand, especially in rural areas. And I have recently decided I don't want to live in a large city, when I "grow up." I like rural areas, where there aren't a lot of people and the sky is clear. That is one nice thing about the Northern Iowa area.
Besides getting ready for grad school, which truly isn't that far away, I have been focusing on my classes here. They are going so much better then last year at this time. I had such a hard transition from home. I was homesick more then I ever knew. Looking back at my blogs, I really knew how bad it was. So for any freshman who are struggling, (everyone I have talked to has at least one day where they are extremely homesick) trust me it gets better. The first year is the hardest no doubt. I study my little booty off, but it has all been so worth it. I have gotten 3A's on the 5 exams I have taken so far, and the other two were B's. Woot Woot!! Hard work will always pay off! I'm incredibly excited to go home this weekend and celebrate my parent's birthdays, and spend time with my family.
My computer was experiencing techincal difficulties for like 2 weeks and I was unable to save or post any pictures...so here are pictures from the first UNI football game! YAY!! go Panthers!!
