In response to the rising floodwaters throughout the Cedar Valley, and in conjunction with the City of Cedar Falls, sandbagging is being staged in the North UNI-Dome parking lot. UNI employees wishing to volunteer should check with their supervisors prior to leaving for volunteer work.

Supervisors are encouraged to be as flexible as possible in dealing with those whose homes are affected and with employees willing to volunteer.

Employees directly affected by the disasters should contact FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).

Bender Hall is being used for Red Cross volunteers and will open at 2 p.m.

In addition, the West Gym is being used to house evacuees. The university is doing an inventory of potential additional spaces that could house evacuees. The West Gym currently houses some 50 people and has space for about 150 additional evacuees.
