June 4, 200920 Years LaterPosted by KellyToday, June 4th, is the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests. There have been numerous stories in the news about the event, but I haven’t heard many people talking about it. Due to the anniversary the “Great Firewall” has blocked lots of websites that might post some negative views or facilitate ways for people to communicate about the event. So far the country has blocked blogstop, flickr, twitter, youtube (has been blocked for several months already), and a few other random websites. I am still able to access all the news websites, political websites, and most everything else. Hopefully after the anniversary we’ll gain access to some of the websites again. (Because really, how much longer can I live without watching videos of dogs on skate boards? Joking!) I’m looking forward to seeing Tiananmen Square first hand. My mom and I will be traveling to Beijing the second week she is here. Beijing is full of historic sites, fantastic shopping, yummy food, and of course the Great Wall! I can’t wait to explore the city! |
