It's in the Bag

Did you know that everyone has 168 hours of time to use every week? The strange part is that some of us think that we have much less time than we used to have. My response to people who think this way is to say, “Yes, you probably are much busier than you used to be, but no, you don’t have less time than you used to have.” We’ve all been allocated the same 10,080 minutes per week.

The thing to remember is that every single week we all use all of our time. Time always fills itself with something, though often it is purposeless or unproductive. Perhaps life would be more enjoyable and less frantic if we realized that we can’t control how much time we are given, but we can control how we use it. I like to think of time as a large canvas bag. Its dimensions are set and it won’t stretch, but for the most part you get to decide what you want to put in it. Much of its contents are regular necessities, often we put good things in it as well, and sometimes we put bad things in it. But unfortunately, it also has a lot of worthless air. Perhaps it’s time for you to take a good look at what’s inside your bag.
