Cultural Encounters: From the Sand to the Snow
Last week was one of the best of my life. I think this is a moment every woman wishes and dream of. To daydream about how and when it is going to happen is amazing. The proposal is a topic in which every couple talks about in either a serious way or in a joking manner. To imagine how your life is going to be with that person. It would not be different in my situation. I dreamed this day would come, and that finally happened last week. Nikolas proposed and it was different than I thought but indeed more special and romantic than I ever could think.
As I already mentioned before in my blog, I have known Nikolas for six years. Distance was always a presence in our relationships, but we managed to work things out and be able to remain together.
As every other couple we always played around with ways of proposing, but I never thought that it would be that close to happening. He wanted to take me to the IOWA FAIR because Brad Paisley was having a concert and we both like country music a lot. I could not understand why he wanted to go there so much on a week day……but now I know why. I was very tired and we ended up not going and I could tell that he was sad. After talking and joking around about ways of proposing, he wanted to take a walk. He got one of my old rings and said smiling (in a joking way)” would you marry me?”. I started laughing and said (joking) “you cannot propose with my own ring, I need a diamond ring”, but at this point I was not taking him seriously. We were walking when he turned around when I said that and he put a diamond ring (solitary) in my hands and said “is this one better?” and proposed. I stopped breathing for a few seconds and my heart was racing so fast that I though I would end up in the hospital that night. After I caught my breath, the tears would not stop rolling down my face, but with a big smile at the same time. It was simple but special, unexpected and memorable. I have thought about this day for so long that it took me time to convince myself it actually happened.
