ITS Communications Corner Announcements

Due to system maintenance scheduled for Saturday, March 15, MyUNIverse and HEAT will be unavailable from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The following systems will be unavailable from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, March 16: e-mail (mail will still be received), MyUNIverseCT (formerly WebCT), MyUNIverse, MEMFIS, and many other smaller distributed systems.

In order to adjust our SAN (Storage Area Network) to support the new imaging project we have scheduled the following maintenance to occur Sunday, March 16 from 7am - 1pm.

Due to system maintenance scheduled for Saturday, March 15, MyUNIverse and HEAT will be unavailable from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The following systems will be unavailable from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, March 16: e-mail (mail will still be received), MyUNIverseCT (formerly WebCT), MyUNIverse, MEMFIS, and many other smaller distributed systems.

The production database WEBP will be unavailable on Saturday, March 15th beginning at 8:00am through 5:00pm. The outage is necessary to upgrade the Oracle database to version 10.2.0.3. This outage will impact the following applications:

My UNIverse
HEAT
AD_ASTRA
Residence applications
BALANCE
UNI ID card system
LIB_PROD systems
ASCC

These databases work with the following applications: Ad Astra, Balance, Equitrac, Heat, Library and the My Universe applications.

The upgrade will take approximately 6-8 hours to complete. Please let me know if you have questions about the upgrade or the proposed dates for the upgrades.

Wednesday 3/19 between 5:30 - 7:30 am there will be a network outage while the main CBB 19 switch is upgraded. The outage includes devices in CBB server rooms 19 and 21, CBB 22, telecom switch, and UNI museum. During the switch upgrade services hosted in these rooms from the UNI network .128.x and it's vlans will be unavailable.

AD (Active Directory) authentication
ITS file and print server
Telecom billing
Wireless (UNI-Wireless, WiFi-UNI, Guest Wireless)
Calendar
ITS Backup Server
http://www.unitix.edu
VOIP Service
ITS-NS workstations

Beware of Scam Soliciting Email Account Information

In general, account information is never requested by a legitimate organization via unsolicited email when you did not initiate the request yourself.

UNI has become aware of a new email phishing scam targeting educational institutions and has developed this information to help users identify this email scam.

There will be a maintenance window regarding fiber optic cabling which will impact UNI voice telecommunications service in ROTH, Family Housing in that vicinity, and University Apartments offices.

This maintenance window will occur Tuesday, March 18th, between 5:00 AM and 6:30 AM.

During a change in fiber pairs within this maintenance window, there will be no UNI voice telecommunications service at the above locations. Plans are in place to re-establish voice telecommunications service as soon as possible after the fiber pairs change.

This maintenance window will NOT impact Qwest or McLeodUSA (PAETEC) service Family Housing residents may have in their residences.

Tomorrow morning, Thursday, March 20, ITS fiber techs will be moving several fiber paths to new fiber between Baker and Curris. This work will begin at approximately 6:00am and should be complete by 6:30am. Individual outages are not expected to last more than 1 minute each. Affected segments include:

• backbone segment (e-mail gateways, www.uni.edu, dhcp servers, authoritative dns, etc.)
  
• memfis
  
• administrative mainframe
  
• myuniverse web servers
  
• ITS unix servers (sunny)
  

Due to system maintenance scheduled for Saturday, March 22nd, MEMFIS will be unavailable from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. This will not impact any other system except MEMFIS Production.

Due to system maintenance scheduled for Saturday, March 29th, MEMFIS will be unavailable from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. This will not impact any other system except MEMFIS Production.
