2/6/2009 Partial Brief Network Outage (core router upgrade) – Friday Morning

Friday, February 6th from 6-6:30am a network core router device will be upgraded. This will cause a brief outage for some network services (VPN and one DNS server). Most people should not see an impact. For some computers there may simply be a brief delay in network response during this time interval.

2/10/2009 Partial Brief Network Outage (switch upgrade) – Tuesday Morning

Tuesday, February 10th, from 6-7am the main network switch in SEC will be upgraded.

This will cause a brief network outage for HPC, SEC, SHC, H2 and WRC. This will also cause an outage for guest wired and wireless connections. These areas won't have Internet or campus network connectivity during the outage.

2/8/2009 Electronic Calendar Outage (server upgrade) – Sunday Morning

Sunday, February 8th, from 5-7am there will be a calendar outage to migrate existing services to a new calendar server hardware platform. All calendar entries will be automatically migrated to the new server. All methods of electronic calendar access will be affected until the switch is complete.

Users of the calendar will not notice any changes in functionality. The purpose of the switch is to provide a more stable service for campus.

2/15/2009 MEMFIS Application Outage – Sunday Morning

All MEMFIS applications will be unavailable from 4:00 am to 7:00 am on Sunday, February 15th. ITS will be applying patches for yearend reporting. This will affect all MEMFIS applications including self service and timecard processing. There should not be any noticeable impact for users after the upgrade completes.

2/13/2009 Minor Services Outage – Friday Morning

There will be a server outage at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow to replace a faulty motherboard in the server that hosts the services listed below. The server should be back online prior to 7:30 a.m. The largest impact will be on the ITS Student Computer Centers that operate 24 hours per day. Here is the list of specific server and services that will be affected:

Jazz - Print Server for ITS
SCC1 - Print Server for SCC Labs
SPSS - License Manager
JAWS - Screen Reading software
SmartPass - Guest Wireless Registration system

2/19/2009 Minor Server Outage – Sunday Morning (5:30AM-6:30AM)

Between 5:30 and 6:30 on February 19, 2009, Sunday morning, the Virtual Machines hosting the SCC and Jazz (ITS) Print servers will be relocated to Gilchrist Hall. Other affected end-user services will include wireless authentication and SPSS license manager services.

2/23/2009 Minor Wireless Outage – Monday Morning (5:00AM-6:00AM)

Monday, February 23, 2009 from 5-6am Wireless networking will be down for an upgrade. No wireless connectivity will be available during this time. This upgrade will also include some configuration changes.

  • The SSID Guest-Portal will be changed to UNI-Guest
  • WPA2 and AES will be enabled on WiFi-UNI
  • Guest account provisioning will be upgraded to use SmartPass. This requires recreation of all existing guest accounts. The ITS helpdesk will create guest wireless accounts upon request from UNI faculty staff sponsors.

2/25/2009 eLearning Outage – Wednesday Morning (6:00AM-7:00AM)

The Blackboard/WebCT learning management and electronic portfolio system will be shutdown Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 6:00 a.m. to diagnose the Chat service and apply system patches to the application servers. The system will be available by 7:00 a.m.

3/1/2009 - Email Outage, Sunday Morning, March 1st (12:01AM-3:00AM)

ITS is changing the UNI email system to enhance email recovery capability. This improvement requires a complete email system outage which will occur on Sunday, March 01, 2009, from 12:01 AM to 3:00 AM. This outage will affect all campus email access methods (Webmail, WebAccess, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.). All other CatID services will continue to function normally.
