10/29/2008 Flash Drive Workaround

Flash (USB) Drive Problem: Occasionally, when you open a Microsoft Office file (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) from a USB key drive (or any drive with the FAT32 file system), modify the file, and then attempt to save the file, an error message will appear and the original file will be lost. This problem has been reported at other institutions as well as at UNI. We are working to find a solution.

The Problem: Occasionally, when you open a Microsoft Office file (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) from a USB key drive (or any drive with the FAT32 file system), modify the file, and then attempt to save the file, an error message will appear and the original file will be lost. Flash (USB) Drive Problem Status: We Believe Rolling Back the Version of SEP (Symantec End Point) Addresses the Problem

The Problem: Occasionally, when you open a Microsoft Office file (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) from a USB key drive (or any drive with the FAT32 file system), modify the file, and then attempt to save the file, an error message will appear and the original file will be lost. This problem has been reported at other institutions as well as at UNI.
