Rod Library has purchased full-text electronic versions of more than 140 reference books and sets published by Gale and its affiliates. These titles also are available in print format in the Library’s collections. The e-books include such diverse resources as the Cambridge World History of Food, Encyclopedia of Bioterrorism Defense, International Encyclopedia of Marriage and Family, St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture, and Web-Based Learning: A Practical Guide.
To access titles in the Gale Virtual Reference Library, you may take one of several approaches:
1. Choose the Databases A – Z link under the Journal and Magazine Articles (Panther Prowler) heading on the Library home page. Choose Gale Virtual Reference Library from the Databases menu. You may search the Library by keyword, title, author, image captions, source titles, ISBN, or full text, or a combination of these fields. Cross-title searching allows for simultaneous searching of up to 10 e-books.
2. Search the Library’s online catalog, UNISTAR, by selecting the Books and Other Materials (UNISTAR) option on the Library’s home page. Do a title search on Gale Virtual Reference Library. This search will result in a display of all titles available to Library patrons in electronic format. Select an individual title; view it by clicking on the “Access via Gale Virtual Reference Library” link in the individual record for that e-book. You may view the Table of Contents and other sections of the book, search the text for particular words or terms, or read the text online. You may print, download, or e-mail selected text. .
3. Search the Library’s online catalog (UNISTAR) for a particular Gale title you know is available to Library patrons in electronic format, and follow the instructions in option 2 above.
Consult the Help menu in the Gale Virtual Reference Library database for additional information.
Multiple patrons may use the database simultaneously.
