Rod Library's Redesigned Web Site Released

Preview the new Web site

Monday, July 13th Rod Library released for public review the beta version of its redesigned Web site. The redesigned site will become Rod Library's primary Web site on August 3.

Your feedback is important to us. We want our site to be as usable and useful to UNI students and faculty as possible. If you would like to comment on the redesigned site or suggest an improvement go to http://wcm.lib.uni.edu/comment-rod-librarys-new-web-site.

New features of the site include:

* Improved navigation and design.

* A “Share” button has been placed on every page. This button will let our users bookmark and share our content with friends through social networking sites. With this button our users can easily send URLs of pages on our site to their Twitter, Delicious, Facebook, and other social networking accounts or send it to a friend.

* A new page has been created which gathers research information from across the site. "Research Help" is a good starting place for those just beginning their research or for those not sure where to begin.

* The tabbed search box on the homepage allows users to choose which types of resources they need to locate, articles, books and other materials, or course reserve information. From here users can do a quick search for journal articles and other materials.

* The News and Events page contains the most recent blog entries, an events calendar, special project information, and blog tag cloud.

New Dictionaries on Stands

Dozens of new dictionaries have replaced older editions on the dictionary stands located around the library, and many of the stands themselves have been relocated, to provide library users with the most current and convenient information possible.

Sixty-five new unabridged and collegiate dictionaries were purchased with special funds. Altogether, 46 stands in the library hold 91 of these frequently used reference books. While the dictionaries can be used right at their stands, each stand also holds at least one smaller collegiate dictionary, which can easily be carried to a study table or desk for further use.

The stands were moved in order to place them in higher-traffic areas and closer to areas with the most study tables and desks, and also to spread them more evenly around the library. In addition, stands are often found in similar locations on each floor of the building, including near most stairways and elevators. A map of the stands can be found here.
