Try It, You'll Like It! Course Reserves
Course reserves provides materials such as books, articles, sample tests, lecture notes, videotapes, DVD's and other items that UNI faculty wish their students to read or view. Thousands of items are placed on reserve every semester, throughout the semester.
UNI Faculty can request that the library place on electronic reserve chapters from books, articles, sample tests or papers, lecture notes, journal articles, and other items for their students to read or view. The Reserve Desk will place items on electronic reserve following the "fair use" provisions of Title 17, Section 107 of the Copyright Act. Rod Library reserves the right to have more restrictive guidelines than stated explicitly in the U.S. Code.
The Electronic Course Reserve service enhances the print course reserve service currently offered through the UNI Rod Library. Electronic Course Reserves allow UNI students access to scanned reserve materials through UNISTAR. Items can be viewed and printed by users, both on and off campus, 24 hours a day/7 days a week. What student wouldn't love that?
Submit your request by August 11 to have it available for the day of class at: http://www.uni.edu/library/reserverequest/.

Which Wireless Network?
Users who bring their laptops to the library are sometimes confused by the fact that their network cards sense three networks. Consequently they often ask which wireless network they should use. Here is some guidance.
Personally owned computers which have been registered with ITS should select the SSID "WiFi-UNI."
University owned computers should select the SSID "UNI-Wireless."
Sponsored university guests should select the SSID "Guest-Portal."
For more detail check out the library's page on Wireless and Hardwired Networking.

Quiet and Group Study Areas
While everyone was away on Spring Break, Rod Library staff were busy making changes to our study areas.
In response to student and faculty requests for more group study areas and dedicated quiet areas, we have created such spaces all around the building. We will be posting maps at our front entrance and you may also view them online. Pick up a brochure at a service desk to take with you too.
Here is a quick summary:
Group study areas have been arranged in locations on the first, second, and third floors. You will find the greatest change in furniture arrangement in the main study area on the west side of second floor.
Quiet areas include the entire fourth floor and the east lounge on the third floor.
We welcome your comments on these changes!

Photocopy Payment Options
The library is planning to modify the current payment options offered for public photocopy machines. By the beginning of the Spring semester we will initiate a charge to u-bill option for the 5 black and white photocopy machines and the one soon to be ordered color copier/printer.
The current coin towers attached to the photocopy machines have the capability of adding cash to your UNI ID card to make copies. The replacement system will not be compatible with the Cash to Card system.
If you currently have money on your UNI ID card you can either spend it before we replace the towers or come to the Circulation desk for a refund. If you choose a refund you will need to get a replacement UNI ID at the Department of Residence.
The towers attached to the microfilm reader printers will continue to accept UNI ID cash to card options until we can find a suitable replacement solution for them.
