sick politics.
all right... so we had the presidential/vice presidential debate today for student government... and WOW was that crazy. i have never actually been to one of these debates before, considering last year morse & bentley ran unopposed. but it was quite an interesting experience, especially from a political science stand point. there were a lot of low blows taken. but the elections are tomorrow and wednesday, so hopefully they'll turn out the way i want them to!

wowzas.
well guys... school is back in full swing... and i'm swinging as hard as i can haha. i currently have just rediscovered one of my favorite aspects (sarcasm) of university life... CLEANING OUT YOUR EMAIL INBOX! haha.
needless to say, the email server has been down for a few weeks, and because of this, i haven't been able to delete emails for the past few weeks... which then led to going over my quota... and not being able to receive emails! whoops...

winter break?
wow! i had no idea that it's been a month since the last update! crazy!
well i'm reporting to you all from estes park, colorado, where i'm spending the week. i needed to get away and just like last year, after finals i hit the road and escaped to colorado! it's beautiful, of course. and snow is everywhere. i hate snow, but it's pretty out here, so i can stand it. i'm staying through friday... so it should be a good week. no plans yet!

ew. sick.
don't you just hate it when it gets down to the most crucial part of the semester and you get SICK?! it always seems to happen to me. bummer. so on this tuesday i'm sitting in my bed doing nothing. i have a doctor's appointment at 1:40... that should be fun.
i've had an eventful couple of weeks between school and work and student life. express is fun... although i'm finding my credit card bill never seems to get any smaller darnit. we had friends & family discount day again on saturday and we did really well. i've been working a lot lately it seems... but that just means i can have money to pay off my bill! hooray!

wake me up when september ends...
so september has been nothing but a crazy month. between classes... student orgs... and this project i'm working on in my presidential scholars class... phew. i'm surprised i'm still breathing.
but anyways... as far as what's been going on... i've decided to take on a little project for my interfraternity council position. back in the day (like... the 90s), they used to have this greek newsletter that they used to send out to the parents to let them know what was going on and also to welcome them into the greek community as parents. i thought this was a great idea, so i've decided i'm going to bring it back. i haven't really started yet, it's just in the idea stage... and i'm trying to get a hold of these old newsletters they used to have for a model...

over my head?
so i am about to go crazy. yes, ladies and gentlemen, i am almost ALMOST at my limit. at least, it feels like it. all this running and running and busy work is almost cracking me. but i won't let it, no sir i won't. i'll just be a little unstable for a few days i guess haha.
basically, i've been kind of sick this past week. either allergies or a cold. i don't know. all i know is that it's annoying! i can't handle being sick during school. unfortunately, i had to miss like 3 classes last week, which I HATE DOING. but yeah. i'm basically loving this semester besides being sick. i've actually been to TWO football games already, which is a great track record for me. usually i have to work, but i'm glad i'm able to go see the panthers cream the opposing team (like isu this past weekend! ha!).

back to SHcool?...
well... the first two weeks of classes have gone great. and i finally have a little bit of down time (thanks to my 11 o'clock being canceled today!) to post my blog entry. thank goodness.
so where do i start? i'm still living in the pike house (my fraternity house), which is going great. i really love my brothers, especially the ones that i'm living with. the sucky thing is that the university is currently doing construction on our house, so they put us in temp housing behind married student housing near the quads. it's right off university avenue, but is really tricky to find due to all the construction on the roads... not to mention it's a LONG walk from my house to lang hall in the morning. maybe i should just stop complaining...

what a busy summer!
so i'm back to working at hy-vee... which is going great. even though a lot of people have left, it's still fun. i work about 30 hours a week... which is great since i need money. and i have a few days off, so that's nice... get to catch up on my social life. yikes.
so i'm currently living in the pike house... and i figured out the internet situation... so now i CAN be on the internet here. wonderful. i thought i was going to die without it. we're getting ready to move into temp housing soon... which i'm pretty psyched about. i got to tour the house yesterday, and it doesn't look like too bad of a place to be for a semester. it's all the way out on the other side of the quads though, so not the most convenient location on campus, but i'll make the best of it.

ahhh... panera bread.
so... i feel as though i am fully living the experience of a poor college student right now. i just got done searching through all of campus finding a computer lab that was open in the summer time, but failed. sure, there were a few computers scattered here and there, but they were always full. darn.
i just moved into the pike house, and the problem is that i haven't figured out how to get wireless to work there yet. i'm gonna have to work my magic somehow because i'm addicted to the internet. ah well, it might take some time, but i'll get it done.

it's been too long.
so i can say that i've had a pretty eventful summer so far, and that's the way i like it. finals went great, in fact. there was one that i felt pretty shaky on, but ended up with an A in the class, so i was satisfied.
i don't know if i wrote this earlier... but i changed officially changed my major and officially added a minor. now i'm cj, the sophomore french and political communication major with a minor in women's and gender studies, from cedar falls, ia. that's got a nice ring to it i suppose...

sick before and during finals = not good!
well guys, i must keep this as short as possible. i have my voice jury tomorrow at 9AM, so i need my sleep. not to mention i've been sick the past few weeks with something the doctors aren't exactly sure about. it's partially hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), but there might be more to it. basically, i've just feeling really lethargic and unable to get out of bed. sometimes i get dizzy or get headaches. basically, it's not fun... especially when i'm trying to concentrate on finals!

all right, it's been awhile.
well, i can honestly say that it has been far too long. and i don't really know why. but alas, i will do a short recapping of the last what... 5 weeks?
i had my first and probably ONLY uni snow day march 2. that was rather exciting. and rather lucky on my part, since i was stuck out of town anyways! but needless to say, it was an eventful thing. snow can be kind of a pain sometimes, but hey, it's iowa, right?
but once all the snow has faded and the spring begins to set in, it's time for crunching for finals. and not only that, but every single student organization in the world is either having elections or recruiting. and we all know i'm a sucker for student organizations! (but the good news is i aced all my midterms!)

midterms are over! i can finally be free again!
well... sorta. i guess that's not completely true. but i can pretend anyways! i've been really busy the past few weeks with lots of traveling and midterms. needless to say, i'm glad that i'm finally back in action!
well, i'll start off with some good news that i found out on valentine's day (pretty much made my day awesome). i got the job for summer orientation staff! i was ultimately speechless when i got the letter--i didn't know what to say. i feel very honored, and i know that this summer's going to be an awesome one. i know a few of the people that i'll be working with, which i feel comfortable about. however, before the actual summer i have to survive meetings to prepare myself... this is going to be a lot to learn. but hey, i think i'll pick it up pretty well. so if you're starting at uni in the fall and are going through summer orientation, look for me!

i'm on the news right now.
so i'm sitting here watching sundeep and ashley get interviewed by kgan news. it's quite exciting actually. i've never been on a computer and on the news at the same time. everyone should watch! although, i have no idea what time this is going to happen. i'll update about it later.
so one interesting experience i had today involving this interview thing. i had to get wifi (wireless, for those of you who are less tech-savvy) activated on my computer today. this is a process involving going to ITS (information technology services). i've been too lazy to do this before, so due to the fact that we were trying to go live on the news, i decided i needed to have it available so i could update my blog... as i was on the news. maybe that was the plan? i don't know.

my week in a nutshell.
sadly enough, i have no pictures to post. i feel somewhat guilty... dang it.
however, i can sure write and try to paint you all a picture of what's been going on!
first things first, i left off talking about summer orientation staff, so i will pick up from there. i got a call from jon the next day and i got my interview set up for thursday. it was nice, kinda informal so i wasn't nervous or anything. i think i did really well... so now i just have to wait to find out whether or not i was selected! i think i find out this weekend, so i'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed.

no time to be sick!
well. it's been two weeks. OVER two weeks. awful awful. truth be told, i'm sick. been sick for over a week now... with a sinus infection... and it hasn't been fun. i've been so busy all week that i didn't have time to go to the doctor until friday (i only have one class). so i got the antibiotics and i'm working on getting better...
in other news, the governor's ball was awesome! gina and i spent about 2 1/2 days down there. thursday, we went to iowa city for the one iowa gala. it was a big social event with a concert by al green! it was pretty awesome. he was a great performer. being a vip was awesome... we didn't have to stand in line at all :D.

back to school... back to school...
dang. school started. yipes. back to life again.
well, first off, i should say i moved into a new room. i'm living in campbell now... and moving in was kind of lengthy... i'm still not completely done yet, but oh well. i really like campbell... the atmosphere's really awesome (aka i know a lot of people here) and plus, it's in a more centralized location. however, since i seem to be so nomadic, i think i'm going to move to bartlett at the end of this year... in a single. maybe. room contracting stuff came in the mail the other day, so i get to decide soon.

decisions, decisions...
well, i survived finals. i'm sorry i haven't updated in so long--since finals have been over, i've been working non-stop at hy-vee. i just put in about... 41 hours this week, and i'm super tired. but now i get a vacation for a few days. yay!
so things have been kind of complicated lately... due to finals and such. after finishing my last final on wednesday (aka finishing that 15 page paper), i went to a nice little party at karen's (my oral comm professor). it was fun, we ate lots of food and played scruples--a fun game from like... the 80s. it was a great way to wind down from finals... pictures? you know it...

shock-and-awe.
really, that's all i can say right now. but wait, i have to make a whole blog entry! yikes!
so, i am majorly stressed out right now. one week left of real classes. and, i'm cramming for everything. i'm worried. sort of? idk. i have so much to... do. i'm losing my mind.
anyways, i haven't updated since the 20th... so what's new?
oh yes, of course. my quote at the top of the uni page! i keep hearing all about it, people are finally starting to see these blogs. i think it's awesome and quite hilarious. if i had a penny for every person that said... "who doesn't love making bubblegum out of playdough..." jeez! lol.
thanksgiving break was fun. didn't get what i wanted to get done, but i got a break! that was good. i worked a lot. and, it was so weird. everyone was gone. the dorms were empty. talk about creepy. but! i got to see friends from high school that i haven't seen in awhile, and plus, john wayne night at the pike house!
warning! this entry contains a larger than life amount of photos! :). (hey, i've had a lot of fun since the last time i posted!).

it's crunch time, boys & girls!
all right,
it's true. it's been weeks since i've updated my blog. i apologize. school is starting to wear down on me. i've been sick a little, staying up too late, and running myself down. these are the real lessons you learn in college. sure, getting an education matters. but LIFE lessons, i think, are much more important. learning to organize your time to get everything done. and i'll be the first to admit that i'm not very good at it. but alas, here goes an entry sure to be filled with eventful happenings!

emotional roller coaster...
oh boy. how long has it been? how busy have i been? how EMOTIONAL have i been? yikes.
i apologize for such a long period of time without updating this, but i simply haven't had the time. i've had quite a crazy week and a half... however long it's been.
well, recent news. it's ingress week for pi kappa alpha. 3 more days until initiation, and i'm living at the house all week. 9 of us... in the basement. it's pretty crowded and crazy, but i love it. we had ceremonies the past two nights, and tonight we have a little game of sorts. i'm excited.

a little late?
so i feel like it's been so long since i've updated this. and i'm trying to think DESPERATELY of what all has happened that's notable in these past 10 days.
aha! that's right! let's start off with some politics.
last wednesday was the debate between the four candidates for the 2 iowa house seats. it was quite a heated debate, and the first time i'd seen matt reisetter. i must say he is quite a challenging opponent for bob kressig. it's going to be interesting how this election turns out. also, doris kelley (of course) was on the debate, and very spunky and fiery as usual. because i think she's awesome, i got a picture with her.

homecoming week... officially over.
wow wow wow. my first ever uni homecoming. so awesome.
the week was super packed with all kinds of fun stuff.

potiki & pavarotti
all right! what an eventful week. i've had so much going on... and so much to talk about... i suppose i shall start off... from last week i guess?
i sang in studio for the first time last week. vocal studio is a class where all the students taking voice lessons from your teacher get together and listen to each other sing. it went really well, i was proud. now i just have to get another song learned for next friday for the freshman showcase! also, the uni singers have a concert this weekend, which is going to be a lot of work, but really fun and an AWESOME performance... i'm really excited.

And I thought high school was busy...
wow!
time flies by so fast when you're in college! yikes!
so i'm sitting in my dorm room. it's pretty late. i am loaded down with homework, which is never good. i have to read a 200 page book and have an analysis paper written by thursday. not to mention have my last paper for that class revised on thursday as well. interestingly enough, i'm doing really well in my intro to lit class. i got a b on the last paper, which i really felt was not even my best work, yet everyone else got lower than that. i was proud for a few seconds haha.

Oh, Class!
So, the first week of classes are complete!
Hooray! I survived! Throw a party!
Okay, so maybe it's not that big of deal. I can get out the streamers and noise makers after the semesters over. Regardless, I can tell this is going to all be so very exciting/interesting/stressing/fun/crazy/maniacal/...?

Where to start?
So, i'm never really sure how to start these. sure, I've had blogs in the past, but it's always awkward starting one up.
"Hey guys, thought I'd do one of these since everyone else is."
End of story, right?
Eh, it's a bit different. Rewind. Three months ago. I'm sitting in the computer lab in my high school, and my old counselor who works at UNI came in. it was exciting, got to see her, talk to her, whatever. but then she told me about this opportunity to blog for UNI, something they were starting new this year.
i thought "hey, awesome." So she gave me this lady's phone number and I said I'd call her.
