Mindless Ramblings of That One Guy

September 18, 2006

And I thought high school was busy...

wow!

time flies by so fast when you're in college! yikes!

so i'm sitting in my dorm room. it's pretty late. i am loaded down with homework, which is never good. i have to read a 200 page book and have an analysis paper written by thursday. not to mention have my last paper for that class revised on thursday as well. interestingly enough, i'm doing really well in my intro to lit class. i got a b on the last paper, which i really felt was not even my best work, yet everyone else got lower than that. i was proud for a few seconds haha.

also, i'm finding that my music classes aren't as bad as i thought they were going to be. the aural training stuff is kind of hard, but with practice, it comes easy. i'm learning so much so quickly, especially cause i've never had any theory or anything before. plus, i sit next to a really awesome girl, so that makes class fun.

i'm learning about the balance of... social and academic life so much more than i've had to before. i'm not really sure why i never had a problem like this before. maybe it's just that college requires more time for academics? also, you're closer to people in college... because they're only a few steps away. and you always see people to talk to! it took me a half and hour to get my mail today because i stopped to talk to people. whoops?

as far as student organizations, i love 'em! i was involved in the glbtau before college, but my new friend gina has gotten me involved in the northern iowa democrats, which is awesome. i went to an event on saturday that was a fundraiser for some local candidates for the upcoming election. i got to talk to some awesome people, which is great for networking and such. plus, i got to watch the iowa/isu game with JOHN KERRY! it doesn't get better than that! (plus, the hawks won!)

after that, i went to the uni football game with a few of my frat brothers. i had a good time, but could only stay an hour (had to work at hy-vee... bummer). i left when the score was 14-3 with the "jackrabbits" (lame mascot, i'd say... especially against the panthers) in the lead. however, through my questioning of customers, i ended up finding out that the panthers won! 27-17! way to go guys!

pike/greek life is great. we played capture the flag with the ADPi's last week... which was a good time. kinda slippery, since it had rained that day, but the girls were really fun and we had food afterwards, which is always good. i had my pledge retreat on friday night, which was a great time to bond with the guys and get to know each other better. good times were had by all!

parents weekend was also this saturday! my parents came to the honor's cottage... and to the pike house. they liked it, which was good.

however, it's getting late, and music theory awaits me. first quiz on wednesday! i've gotta learn all the scales and key signatures!!!
