let's see... what else... jeff, my voice teacher, was sick last week. that kind of sucked. i missed out on my lesson. but i finally got all the music that i needed and i'm ready and rearing to go. i really want to do well this semester for juries, so i'm going to work really hard on getting my music learned and memorized. it kind of helps that there's a piano in the campbell lounge right down the hall from me!
also, for my position on IFC, i've been working on redoing the greek life brochure for uni. it's kind of a major project, and i have got to find time to do it, which is sometimes hard in my schedule! i have to get in contact with all the chapters and meet with them and ask what they want changed for the summer edition. also, for next year, i want a different cover, and apparently they have to budget for that with nisg, so i have to talk to one of the ladies in the activities center. i'm hoping it'll turn out really awesome.
in other greek news, all the new pledges in all the chapters on campus were required to attend this speaker on thursday night. i guess a lot of classes had to go to it to, because it was really packed. a guy came and talked about drunk driving and how he killed his three best friends because he was drinking and driving on spring break. it was a really informational and emotional talk, and i'm glad that he came. a lot of students needed to hear what he had to say; way to go uni for bringing him in.
wait, i completely forgot that i was at the capitol lobbying last tuesday. that was fun. missed classes for a day, which wasn't the best idea since i hate missing class, but i caught myself up. it was quite an experience. i got to watch the senate debate the bill and stuff, which i figured would be a good thing to witness if i do decide to go into political communication.
my classes are going really well. i really like my presidential scholar seminar this semester. it's called "freedom, community, and social control." we talk a lot about how society affects each of us and our freedom. it just really makes me think and question my beliefs, and i love to sit around and talk about sociological stuff. it's just so interesting, i can't explain it. i think it's an awesome presidential scholars class because it's so much beyond a regular class the university offers. we're really thinking abstractly, and i enjoy having that opportunity.
also, i got to plan this week's glbtau meeting with spencer, one of the other executive board members. we talked about gender stereotypes and how they affect us. spencer and i are in charge of the next three meetings, so it's definitely a learning experience. i feel really lucky that i'm able to have a leadership position as a freshman.
last but not least, i got a call from robin from the admissions office today. a press release for the blogs was released last week, i believe, and now the news wants to interview us i guess? i don't know, i'm kind of excited... but i get interviewed tomorrow... so i'll let you all know how it goes!
go cats.
