Mindless Ramblings of That One Guy

August 31, 2007

back to SHcool?...

well... the first two weeks of classes have gone great. and i finally have a little bit of down time (thanks to my 11 o'clock being canceled today!) to post my blog entry. thank goodness.

so where do i start? i'm still living in the pike house (my fraternity house), which is going great. i really love my brothers, especially the ones that i'm living with. the sucky thing is that the university is currently doing construction on our house, so they put us in temp housing behind married student housing near the quads. it's right off university avenue, but is really tricky to find due to all the construction on the roads... not to mention it's a LONG walk from my house to lang hall in the morning. maybe i should just stop complaining...

i'm pretty sure that i have an awesome schedule as well. i'm taking intro to american politics, french, italian, mass communication and society, and africa. so far, everything seems to be going well. i really love my professors, and i know that this is going to be a great semester for me. i'm currently at 18 hours of credit. i dropped choir because i was over 18 and didn't think i'd be able to put the time and effort into it that was due. and also, i'm somewhat confused that when i got back into choir, i had somehow lost a lot of my appreciation for choral music (scary, i know). i think it's just that after this summer, after playing my guitar and singing my original songs for people... choir just doesn't compare. it doesn't give me the high i get from performing alone. huh.

my mother keeps telling me not to abandon music, and i'm not. if anything, i've never been this on fire for music. it's just a completely different direction than what i thought i'd do at the beginning of college. oh well.

anyways, when i'm not singing for people or in class, i'm usually at some student organization meeting. i've had so many meetings these first two weeks it's ridiculous! plus, it's recruitment season so we've been having all these recruitment events at the house. they've been a lot of fun. yesterday, we had a bunch of guys over and grilled out. then we went to the first uni football game of the year... (which uni WON, of course). but pretty much i have two meetings monday nights, two meetings tuesday nights, one meeting wednesday during the day, and one meeting on thursday night. yikes. and there's one organization that we haven't even set up a meeting time for yet!

and did i mention i just recently got a new job? crazy... i'm finally done at hy-vee. now you can all find me at express inside the college square mall. it's a pretty fun job, a lot different than what i'm used to. i really like my coworkers and selling clothes though. plus... the discount's not bad either ;). in fact, i should let all of you know that THIS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2007 is friends & family discount day... 20% off your purchase! and you're all invited!

enough of that. it's about time for me to go get ready for the day so i can go eat lunch in the union... something that's become a lot more common since i don't live in the res halls anymore...
